international LGBT news headlines from Pinksixty.
A transgender woman was denied treatment for
3 hours at a hospital in Pakistan after being
shot in the stomach on Tuesday.
The victim was finally treated in an all-male
ward after complaints by local activists.
The President of Guyana has been criticised
for not acting against the country’s anti-gay
laws, which he said violate human rights.
President David Granger came to power last
year but has yet to debate the issue in parliament.
Doctors report that 71% of all new HIV cases
in the Netherlands over the past 10 years
came from positive gay men who were undiagnosed.
They say that over 70% of all new infections
could be averted with a campaign of PrEP and
early treatment options.
Fashion designer, Marc Jacobs has announced
that transgender movie producer, Lana Wachowski
is to model this year’s Spring/Summer collection.
He says Wachowski, who co-produced the Matrix
movies represents intelligence and beauty.
And finally, lesbian romance, ‘Carol’,
starring Cate Blanchett has been nominated
for 9 BAFTAs, tying with ‘Bridge of Spies’
for most nominations.
Transgender biopic, ‘The Danish Girl’
is also up for five awards – one more than
the new Star Wars movie.
